一起Push On...

Cong Kaifeng Dao New York― Glory is as Ephemeral as Smoke and Clouds
    Nicholas D. Kristof
    The New York Times

As this millennium dawns, New York is considered to be the most important city in the world, the unofficial capital of planet Earth. But before New Yorkers become too full of themselves, it might be worthwhile to glance at dilapidated Kaifeng in central China.
Kaifeng, an ancient city along the mud-clogged Yellow River, was by far the most important place in the world in A.D. 1000. And if you've never heard of it, that's a useful warning for Americans. As expressed in this column's headline ― translated from Chinese, a language of the future that more Americans should start learning― "glory is as ephemeral as smoke and clouds."
As the world's only superpower, America may look today as if global domination is an entitlement. But if you look back at the sweep of history, it's striking how fleeting supremacy is, particularly for individual cities.
My vote for most important city in the world in the period leading up to 2000 B.C. would be Ur, Iraq. In 1500 B.C., perhaps Thebes, Egypt. There was no dominant player in 1000 B.C., though one could make a case for Sidon, Lebanon. In 500 B.C., it would be Persepolis, Persia; in the year 1, Rome; around A.D. 500, maybe Changan, China; in 1000, Kaifeng, China; in 1500, probably Florence, Italy; in 2000, New York; and in 2500, probably none of the above.
Today, Kaifeng is grimy and poor, not even the provincial capital and so minor it lacks even an airport. Its sad state only underscores how fortunes change. In the 11th century, when it was the capital of Song Dynasty China, Kaifeng reached its peak of importance. It was a commercial and industrial center at the intersection of four major canals. During this time, the city was surrounded by three rings of city walls and commodities assembled from all over the world. Its population was more than one million. In contrast, London's population then was about 15,000.
An ancient painted scroll, now in the Palace Museum in Beijing, China, shows the bustle and prosperity of ancient Kaifeng. Hundreds of pedestrians jostle each other on the streets, camels carry merchandise in from the Silk Road, and teahouses and restaurants do a thriving business.
Kaifeng's stature attracted people from all over the world, including hundreds of Jews. Even today, there are some people in Kaifeng who look like other Chinese but who consider themselves Jewish and do not eat pork.
As I roamed the Kaifeng area, asking local people why such an international center had sunk so low, I encountered plenty of envy of New York. One man said he was arranging to be smuggled into the United States illegally, by paying a gang $25,000, but many local people insisted that China is on course to bounce back and recover its historic role as world leader.
"China is booming now," said Wang Ruina, a young peasant woman on the outskirts of town. "Give us a few decades, and we'll catch up with the United States, even pass it."
She's right. The United States has had the biggest economy in the world for more than a century, but most projections show that China will surpass it in about 15 years, as measured by purchasing power parity.
So what can New York learn from a city like Kaifeng?
One lesson is the importance of sustaining a technological edge and sound economic policies. Ancient China flourished partly because of pro-growth, pro-trade policies and technological innovations like curved iron plows, printing and paper money. But then China came to scorn trade and commerce, and per capita income stagnated for 600 years.
A second lesson is the danger of hubris, for China concluded it had nothing to learn from the rest of the world ― and that was the beginning of the end.
I worry about the United States in both regards. America's economic management is so lax that it can't confront farm subsidies or long-term budget deficits. American technology is strong, but public schools are second-rate in math and science. And Americans' lack of interest in the world contrasts with the restlessness, drive and determination that are again pushing China to the forefront.
Beside the Yellow River, I met a 70-year-old peasant named Hao Wang, who had never gone to a day of school. He couldn't even write his name ― and yet his progeny were different.
"Two of my grandsons are now in university," he boasted, and then he started talking about the computer in his home.
Thinking of Kaifeng should stimulate Americans to struggle to improve their high-tech edge, educational strengths and pro-growth policies. For if they rest on our laurels, even a city as great as New York may end up as Kaifeng-on-the-Hudson.

    突然想起凤凰卫视的音乐无极限,应该是十多年前的节目了,但突然想起来,也突然很怀念那些听卡带看MV的年月,还有,记得当时一直很喜欢柯蓝和梁永斌,还有一个隔壁班喜欢张惠妹的女孩。。。
    丛缺,第一次听到这个名词好像是在一个国外的颁奖节目上,当时评委会对第一名没有提名,决定留给下年再选,从此也记住了那字幕里一闪而过的名词。
    最好的,或者说最理想的,无论是所谓的状态还是想要得到的,应该都是可以存在于这种丛缺着的状态,就像球王贝利说过,最精彩的进球永远都是下一个。所以,很多东西也都适用于这种“丛缺”的状态。

    p.s 这两天法国佳士德公司拍卖圆明园兽头的事出了不少插曲,也让我在电视上看到了熟人,欧洲保护中华艺术协会的会长,高美斯先生和他的夫人,两张熟悉的脸庞,一对和蔼的夫妇,一小段难忘的西洽会工作经历,不过可惜的是现在很少联系了。贴张老照片,也感谢一下一个法国人对中国追讨海外流失文物事业的贡献。

    忘不了那些快乐,那些充满热情的人,那些难忘的经历,那些荣誉、失败、伤痛;
    那是一段只顾享受每一天,每一刻,人生中最美好日子;那是一段不在乎得失,只需要快乐的日子;
    那是一段激情燃烧的岁月,也是一段短暂,但难以磨灭的岁月。
    如今很多东西都已成为了记忆,但,好在还有些人留在了你的身边,还会时不时地谈起那些球场上的记忆。

Sunray Smile recorded by Amber Van Vleet

What a difference a sunray can make

In a world that's tired of the rain

What a difference a smile can make

In a heart that's filled with pain

    She had a Sunray smile

Fairer then the spring or a rainbow

    Sunray smile

Come to melt away the snow

The darkness of a shadow always flees

Where ever a sunray is found

The darkness in a heart always leaves

When the glow of that smile is around

    #She had a Sunray smile

Push On...

    798, Chinese Contemporary Arts, Beijing...

添加了首新歌,Auld Lang Syne(友谊地久天长)

NBC's conclusion remarks for Beijing Olympic Games

Well, just as the marathon was one of the concluding events of the Olympic
Games, we are now bringing our broadcast marathon to a close. Beyond the
competitive drama, every Olympics provides a snapshot of a city and a
country at a point in time. This one was more compelling than most, since
China's rise and its ongoing transformation is the global story, not only of
the moment, but likely of the foreseeable future. These Olympics were a
milestone in that still unfolding story. And while history will tell us
whether or not the Olympics provided China with the confidence to not only
build on its considerable strengths, but also to address its considerable
problems. This much we know. This is a country so vast, a people with lives
so varied and a history so rich and complex that no visitor can fully grasp
it. Still, of these Games, no advanced degree in international relations
was required to appreciate the genuine warmth of the Chinese people, the
honest pride in their country and how seriously Chinese citizens, famous
Olympians, to everyday men and women, took this chance to show themselves to
the world. All Olympics are important to the host city. These Games were
monumentally important to the host nation, which happens to be home to 1/5
of humanity. All that said, just as these Olympics were significant
politically, they were also very significant competitively. Beijing turned
out to be among the most memorable Olympics ever. One headline was
anticipated before the Games began, and then verified here. For the first
time since the fall of the Berlin Wall, an ongoing Olympic rivalry shapes up
. In Beijing, the U.S. won 110 medals-the most it's ever won at a non-
American Olympics. But China, second in the overall count, easily won the
most golds here, and the most by any country since the old Soviet Union in
1988. Many of China's triumphs went beyond excellence. Their perfection and
precision, simply beautiful to behold. China is now a sports power with a
sophisticated state-supported sports system. They will be at or near the top
of the medal list at London and beyond.Meanwhile, the Americans had plenty
to cheer about. Beach volleyball pairs both prevailing, Nastia Liukin and
Shawn Johnson winning gold and winning hearts, the men's basketball team
doing exactly what they set out to do-winning, yes-but also redeem and
redefine the image and purpose of the U.S. program. These Games reached
multiple crescendos. From the beginning, there was Michael Phelps, who now
ranks among the very greatest Olympians ever and who is also now in the top
tier of the best and most popular contemporary athletes in any sport-unheard
of for a swimmer, until Phelps.Just about the time Phelps left the pool, a
Jamaican jet zoomed over the track. The sprints are supposed to be decided
by blinks of an eye, not by bolts of speed so astonishing that, like the
spectators, the competitors can only marvel at the world's-- and history's--
fastest man. More nations, 204, participated here than in any Games before.
And more won medals, 87, than ever before as well. But beyond the medal
podium, the Olympics remain a human panorama, with many also-- ran finishes
and first-round eliminations, nonetheless representing epic personal stories
, only appreciated by the participants themselves and their families,
friends and countrymen.Theses Games began with Zhang Yimou's stunning
Opening Ceremony, so boldly conceived and brilliantly executed, that it set
a standard for such occasions unlikely to be equaled. And tonight, with more
theatrical touches, the curtain came down. So the people of the world came
to Beijing, and the people of China extended their hands. You don't have to
speak a word of Mandarin to understand that.I've been fortunate to be
involved with many memorable Olympics, and in many ways, this has been the
most memorable. In no small part, due to the efforts of the small army of
people who worked tirelessly to bring these Games home to you. For these
colleagues, I will always have enormous professional regard and personal
gratitude. The names of these talented men and women accompany this final
montage of the images of China and Olympic moments-moments we hope resonate
with you as they have with us. Good night, this one last time, from China.

    Push on...

    Beijing 2008,
I was sooo close to it,
    close to all the venues,
    close to the athletes,
    and the Gold Medalist...
    The XXIX Olympiad has finished,
but the Paralympics is still to come,
as well as the brand new life...
Push on, Moving on...

    Same Time 3 Years Ago

    Same Time 3 Years Ago
    July 14

    Push On...

Life is all the experience, there is nothing about money or anything;虽然,慢慢的,也开始明白“鱼和熊掌不可兼得”这句古谚的深意,但,还是一次次的在选择中放弃着,and life is all about making choices, through which you see your life;虽然,还是会想念和怀念,想念那样一个总是令人魂牵梦绕的古城,怀念那么一些同我一起分享了生命中最美好年华的人们,但,好像一切都正在开始,没时间想念,也已停不下来怀念;虽然,自己从未确信这些信念、所谓的选择和脚下的路,是对是错,但,也许这就是生活,C'est La Vie! -no, it's difficult, but we have to Push On...
2008"。Wish You All the Best!!!

    Where Is the Love

What's wrong with the world, mama?
People livin like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world's addicted to the drama
Only attracted to the things that'll bring the trauma
Overseas ya we tryin to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin
In the U.S.A, the big C.I.A
The bloods & the crips, and the KKK
But if you only got love for your own ways
Then you only leave space to discriminate
    To discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate, then you're bound to get irate
    Madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Man ya gotta have love, this'll set us straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate, to the love ya'll
    Chorus-
    People killin
    People dyin
    Children hurt and
    Women cryin
Will you practice what you preach
Or would you turn the other cheek
    Father father father, help us
    Send some guidance from above
These people got me got me questionin
    Where is the love?(love)
    Where is the love?(the love)
    Where is the love?(the love)
Where is the love, the love, my love
    it just ain't the same
    old ways have changed
new days are strange, is world insane?
if love and peace is so strong
why are there pieces of love that don't belong
    nations droppin bombs
chemical gasses fillin lungs of little ones
with ongoin sufferin, as the youth die young
so ask yourself, is the lovin really gone
so I can ask myself, really what is going wrong
with this world that we livin in, people keep on givin in
makin wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
not respectin eachother, deny thy brother
a war is goin on but the reason's under cover
the truth is kept secret, and swept under the rug
if you never know truth, then you never know love
    where's the love ya'll? (i don't know)
    where's the truth ya'll? (i don't know)
    and where's the love ya'll?
    People killin
    People dyin
    Children hurt and
    Women cryin
Will you practice what you preach
Or would you turn the other cheek
    Father father father, help us
    Send some guidance from above
These people got me got me questionin
    Where is the love?(love)
    Where is the love?(the love)
    Where is the love?(the love)
Where is the love, the love, my love
I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
as I'm getting older, ya'll people gets colder
most of us only care about money makin
selfishness got us followin the wrong direction
wrong information always shown by the media
negative images is the main criteria
infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
whatever happened to the values of humanity?
whatever happened to the fairness and equality
instead of spreading love we spreadin animosity
lack of understandin leading us away from unity
that's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin under
that's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin down
It's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin under
gotta keep my faith alive till love is found
    now ask yourself
    People killin
    People dyin
    Children hurt and
    Women cryin
Will you practice what you preach
Or would you turn the other cheek
    Father father father, help us
    Send some guidance from above
These people got me got me questionin
    Where is the love?(love)
    Where is the love?(the love)
    Where is the love?(the love)
Where is the love, the love, my love

Where is the Love...What's soo wrong with this f**ing world???

    Just for Today

Just for today I will try to live through this day only and not tackle my whole life problem at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.
Just for today I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."
Just for today I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my "luck" as it comes.
Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.
Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways. I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out: If anybody knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least two things I don't want to do-just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt: they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.
Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, talk low, act courteously, criticize not one bit, and try not to improve or regulate anybody but myself.
Just for today I will have a program, I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision.
Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective of my life.
Just for today I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.
Just for today, for we could only catch this moment and Today.
